Gilbert’s is a family owned and operated business.  We  have been serving the community since 1979.   From 1979 until 1992 our business was a floorcovering installation company, then in 1992 we opened our retail operation.   Our store is built on property that was part of the original Gilbert Family Farm. (see picture).   As the Big Rapids community grew the farmland was developed and became part of Ferris State University along with many other commercial businesses and the location of Gilbert’s Carpets Plus Color Tile.

Showroom and Services

Gilbert’s Carpets Plus Color Tile is one of the largest floor covering dealers in the west central Michigan area, we serve all of Michigan for both residential and commercial clients.

We have a large in-stock selection of Carpet, Ceramic Tile, Hardwood, Laminate, Vinyl, Luxury Vinyl Tiles and Planks, Area Rugs, Schluter System Products, Installation supplies and Cleaning supplies.

Our Showroom is 5,500 square feet.  Our Warehouse is 9,000 square feet.

The world matters- We recycle carpet pad, cardboard and paper.

Joined Gilberts in January 2011 in our Rockford location. Mitch has been in the flooring industry for over 30 years. He is Married with 4 daughters, 1 son-in-law and 2 Grandsons.

Robert Melefsky

Joined Gilbert’s in July 2011. Robert has been in the flooring industry for over 30 years. His years of experience and knowledge of the industry has proven to be an asset in assisting clients in their flooring needs. His goal is to keep up with the current trends and providing high level of customer service.

An addition to our team in 2022, Callie comes to us with a background of Home Improvement. Another DIYer, she’s a quick learner and eager to help you with your next home improvement project!

Amy Parker

Joined our company in 2019 as a member of our sales team and now is working on all of our claims, helping with administrative work, and doing blind sales.
Amy has a degree in Business Communications from Mid Michigan Community College (2018).

Chelsea Lones

Chelsea joined our team at the end of 2020. She comes from a family of tile installers! She’s the perfect one for your DIY because she’s done a lot of it herself. Especially tile!

Chelsea has an Associates of Applied Science in Computer Aided Drafting and Design from ITT Technical Institute (2012)

Joined our team in 2020. She is our support staff at the front counter and assists with answering phones, payments and preparing jobs for installation.

Nickolas Fuchs Sr.
Warehouse Associate

Nick has worked in many different fields of employment. Most notably he served in the military operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan).

The skills he’s learned in his past endeavors helps him run a clean and friendly warehouse. His attention to detail and phenomenal organization skills make him the perfect person to help our installers load materials for installation in your home, as well as receiving deliveries of materials, binding rugs and runners, and assisting clients with cash and carry products.

Corinne Gilbert
Administrative Support | Accounting | Advertising

Corinne is the daughter of George and Ruthanne Gilbert and has worked for the family business on and off since 2005 and rejoined the team in January of 2020. She is your on-site accounting contact as well as advertising and pricing. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Technology with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering and a Minor in Art from Michigan Technological University (2009). Her studies included backstage aspects of Theater including Set Design, Costumes, Props, Lights and Sound. Her design and technical background is a great asset to support the Sales Team.

Son of Tom and Dawn Gilbert has worked for the family business on and off for several years. He rejoined the team in his current role in January of 2020.
